Following my marriage breakdown, the subsequent litigation battle included a fight regarding the value of approximately two dozen horses. These horses included breeding stallions, broodmares, competition horses, and youngstock. The horses, worth potentially hundreds of thousands of dollars, were being claimed to be worth only meat value by my ex-wife. As a result, although located in southern Ontario, I hired Tracy Dopko to appraise the horses. She flew to Ontario from Alberta, in the winter, and under challenging conditions (both weather and acceptance by my ex-wife), carried out a complete evaluation of all horses. In addition, she researched bloodlines, competition results, etc. in order to comprehensively determine realistic values. Tracy then wrote an extremely detailed and professional appraisal report, including pictures and references, justifying exactly how she determined each horse appraisal value. Her report was a significant part of my legal documents.
Unfortunately, my divorce battle required a 13 day trial, and I needed expert testimony to substantiate my position regarding the horse values. Therefore, Tracy once again flew to Ontario to attend trial and testify as an expert witness on my behalf. With Tracy's qualifications and experience, the trial judge immediately accepted her as an expert witness, which is critical in the legal process. When on the stand, Tracy provided composed and professional testimony when questioned by my lawyer, and easily held up under the pressure of being questioned by the opposing lawyer. As a result, when the judge completed her written judgment, Tracy's appraisal values were largely used, resulting in a huge win for me at trial. In addition, Tracy's appraisal values also withstood an appeal by my ex-wife against the trial judgment.
Without a doubt, the best decision I made in my legal battle was to hire Tracy Dopko. Her assistance and ability to obtain realistic appraisal values for the horses was a significant reason for my success at trial. I highly recommend Tracy Dopko. She was competent, professional, experienced, and very importantly, accepted as an expert witness at trial ... that equaled success.
